Why visit the dentist on a regular basis?
Many people don’t for a variety of reasons: time, work, money and generally life getting in the way.
Here are 5 good reasons to visit a dentist regularly (every 6 months):
- Check that your teeth have no cavities. You don’t necessarily have to be in pain to have a cavity and a cavity will not always cause pain but when it does, you may end up needing more than just a simple filling.
- Checking the health of your gums. Plaque and tartar (hard build up not removed by a toothbrush) can cause bad breath, tooth discolouration and build to gum problems that can lead to tooth loss (periodontitis). All this is painless till it’s too late.
- Oral cancer screening. We always check your soft tissues for oral cancer. People who smoke and drink and are over 40 are at a higher risk.
- Maintenance. Certain prostheses, bridges and implants may need regular maintenance. Neglecting this may lead to accelerated deterioration and loss of the affected teeth resulting in emotional and financial pain.
- Last but not least, prevention and education. Regular attendance will ensure that you minimise any potential future problems therefor keeping your wallet happy and your emotional well-being intact.
